What is futsal?
Futsal comes from Spanish fútbol sala and from Portuguese futebol de salão and may be translated as "indoor football".
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that originates from South America in the 1930s. It is played widely across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA. Normally, played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a ball with a reduced bounce. Futsal is played to touchlines and players have 4 seconds to take kick ins when the ball goes out.
The constraints of the game place a large emphasis on technical skill and ability to play in high pressure situations.
Many of the world’s top football players played futsal in their youth and credit it for supporting their development.
“I love futsal. I enjoyed it a lot. I love the skill with the ball, the intensity of the moves, the side steps, the blocks, the passing” Iniesta
“It was really great fun and helped me become who I am today” Lionel Messi
